Started as an intern and became a core contributor across the backend, frontend, and infrastructure.
The problem
Procol's main backend monolith was stuck on Rails 5 while the rest of the stack modernized. The upgrade had to happen on a live product with real customers and minimal downtime.
The approach
- Planned a phased Rails 5 → 6 → 7 upgrade path with rollback at every step.
- Ran shadow workloads and deprecation audits in staging before touching production.
- Built a PDF rendering service for document generation and sharing.
- Contributed across backend and frontend services in a fast-moving startup environment.
Impact
Completed Rails 5 to Rails 7 migration with minimal downtime
Shipped a reusable PDF rendering service
Gained full-stack ownership while still an intern
What I learned
- Big framework upgrades are won by preparation and rollback plans, not speed.
- Production feedback loops teach you more than any tutorial.
